Silambam is the very ancient traditional martial arts of Tamil Nadu.
There are many discussions and debates why the name Silambam, but actually the name Silambam is not the ancient name for stick fencing. Let us don't go into that discussion.
There are many different styles in silambam (Stick Fencing) among which Nagam Pathinaru (Cobra Sixteen) is one of the distinct fighting style like a Cobra which can protect itself from all 16 angles ( 4 directions 8 corners and further divideds into 16 angles). This style have a very powerful striking techniques named Veechi ( unique only in this style), Aruppu, vettu. And also the defending methods which is more effecient way to block very powerful strikes. This style has its unique lessons with very basic to very advanced vital techniques not limited to apply varmam using stick and many secret and special lessons with many marmam. The Strength of the tree is always determined by the quality of its seed same way this style quality and its traditional values has been manitained by our Grand Master Mr Shanmuga Siva Chidambaram Kumaraswamy - Keezhmambattu, Panruti TK. He learnt Nagam pathinaru from Grand master Mr S.N.Siyed Ali (Panruti) and from the Nagam Pathinaru expert Great Grand Master Mr Maiyavel (Known as Kendai Aruppu Maiyavel from Manadikuppam). And Grand Master Chidambaram is also expert in Asu Kambu Silambam a another powerful style from Grand master K.Chinnadurai - Kalikuppam.
Even there are many different team practice nagam Padhinaru the students who practices from Master Chidambaram has the very traditional values of it without unchanged and modified its originality.
Why us
Student has to choose and find the best Coach/Master and mean while master choose their students too. Art of silambam is always special and mor of its specialty is its particular style and its master who teaches the art and to learn Nagam 16 in its raw traditional way it to learn from some one practiced directly from Grand Master Chidambaram in person for many years. And also with respect to the modern era students has to learn its traditional techniques and as well as has to learn the sports version of it to participate and win in silambam sports events which our goverment is encouragin a lot. We have a very special coach/master named Ranjith who learnt directly from mater Chidambaram for around 20 years in person and one amont the very senior most students who is expertise in Nagam Padhinaru.
